Those interested can purchase the product in any of the ten regional BC offices. At these locations, the payment can only be made in cash. They can also be bought through the Bank of Brazil website, with payment options being bank transfer or, if the buyer owns an account on the bank, through direct debit.

The Central Bank counts with a total of R$ 20 million raised in total, with a limited run of 165.000 units being produced. Of these, there will be 5.000 gold ones, 20.000 of each silver model and 20.000 of each copper and nickel model, according to João Sidney de Figueiredo Filho, chief of currencie movement of the Central Bank.

“The numbers will be limited. Over time, each piece will have a certain rarity, but that is precisely the point of the commemorative coins. We expect to sale all the produced units, there being a big national and international interest in the items. Part of them will be exported, as the interest in collecting them abroad seems to be growing.” said John Sidney.

The innovation of the special edition, according to Figueiredo, is the copper and nickel series. Out in March, the nickel and copper models will be sold in packets of six, costing R$130.00.

“It is worth noting that it is customary the production of commemorative coins in each country that hosts the World Cup. In our case, the big news is the copper and nickel models, which honors the most outstanding moves in soccer history and has a more affordable price.”

The gold coin will be alluding to the World Cup´s cup and to the goal moment. One of the silver models will present the official World Cup mascot, Fuleco, the armadillo, while the other ones will present tributes to the twelve host cities of the competition. The Central Bank will be paying Fifa 10% of royaltys per unit sold.
